Today I sewed
this flannel nightgown for our oldest granddaughter, Joanna, who turned
11 on the 13th. Hannah cut it
out; I sewed it.

Emma's Jr. Bridesmaid Dress
This is Emma's
dress for Caleb and Maria's wedding, which is three weeks from tomorrow.
The fabric is taffeta Lycra. I still need
to hem it, including the lining, but hopefully not the ruffled netting.
Perhaps she
can try it on tomorrow. Emma is 7, and, by all appearances, she is
nearly
as excited as
the bride, to be in this wedding.

Victoria's Red Dress
Victoria
wanted to make this red dress for her first day at school, but time and
circumstances foiled that plan. Last night she set about finishing
it, but the pleats at the waist just wouldn't behave, and she
gave up in frustration, remarking as she turned off the light on her
machine and exited the sewing room, "This is why I crochet!"
Well, one
mustn't let a young seamstress get too discouraged, sooo...
I finished it for her, redoing the waist, putting in the zipper, and
hemming it.
The bolero
came from the Goodwill, and was exactly the finishing touch it needed.

Nathanael's Vehicle Shirt
Nathanael will
match Levi Thursday at our Fourth-of-July church picnic, though
Nathanael's yokes and collar are red, while Levi's are blue.
Nathanael is 7.
I do not like
this style of a shirt pattern, with no collar band, and only a facing in
front, as opposed to a separate placket. It is so much better
tailored -- to say nothing of easier to sew -- with a band and plackets,
as Levi's shirt has. Why do pattern designers think we like
facings that turn wrong side out when we wash our clothes -- or stick
out whilst we're a-wearing them?? Well, we don't. So I
topstitched the facings down. Perhaps you can spot the stitching
line in the third photo below.

Levi's Vehicle Shirt
This is for Levi for the Fourth-of-July picnic. Hannah was making a dress for Joanna and shirts for Nathanael and Levi, and was running out of time; so I offered to sew one of the shirts. Levi just turned 3.
Look, I even
remembered to get the directional print right side up!

Joanna's Czechoslovakian Dress
Here are pictures my
daughter Hannah sent me of Joanna in her Czechoslovakian dress that I helped
her finish yesterday. Hannah made the white underdress and the black
pinafore top, and was running out of time to finish it for Czechoslovakian Day
at school today. So yesterday I put together the red skirt and the apron
overlay. Hannah made the flower wreath for her hair.
This was for
Czechoslovakian Day at school today. The children ate a Czechoslovakian
dinner at noon, and Hannah's contribution was an apple strudel.
